The Analog Players Society (APS) is a rotating supergroup of musicians hanging around the studio, the likes of which read like a who’s who list of the wide-open Brooklyn music scene as it stands today. The APS vibe is about making people dance even if the power goes out.
Led by Amon Drum out of The Bridge Studio in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, players have included the late Ethan White (Tortured Soul), Will Jones, and Dave Smith (TV On The Radio) John Natchez (The War on Drugs), Jonathan Powell (Eddie Palmieri ), to the heavy hitting jazz cats on TILTED and Soundtrack for a Nonexistent Film: Donny McCaslin, Eric McPherson, Dezron Douglas, Orrin Evans, and Ben Rubin. Newest release, "Home in America" is the result of a collaboration with legendary MC Masta Ace.
APS started with an initial string of sold-out 7” releases, featuring reggae jam versions of 80’s covers including Wang Chung’s “Dancehall Days” to their version of Nu Shooz’ “I Can’t Wait” ft. Cecilia Stalin, which KCRW broke on the airwaves. APS’ follow-up album in 2012, “Hurricane Season in Brooklyn” debuted at #1 on iTunes World chart, and was soon followed by the West African inspired EP, CYK to JFK, which won over DJs, jazz aficionados and frequented dance floors all over the world. As collaborations and remixes continued with Soul Clap, J Kriv, and others, APS has become known for the one-liner that still holds true today: “State of the art 1970’s technology…Nasty horns...Big drums…Sweaty dance floors...Paradise.”
