<a href="spotify:artist:4OAjTKu10hO3l5tdi3jvOn" data-name="Ancient Cat Society">Ancient Cat Society</a> formed in 2010 while Houston’s folk-rock band <a href="spotify:artist:1qJKFe32PZgDug1xq1SVAY" data-name="Buxton">Buxton</a> was recording their NEW WEST debut album “Nothing Here Seems Strange." Lead singer/writer Sergio Trevino invited Haley Barnes to sing back up vocals/ harmonies and instantly hit it off, and began writing music together. Quickly they enlisted the help of guitarist Austin Sepulvado to complete the trio, writing 3 part harmonies and adding instrumentation. Inspired by offbeat country and sometimes humorous folk from the 60’s like <a href="spotify:artist:3XHvzfKFZkSXEUiZE4WrIz" data-name="Michael Hurley">Michael Hurley</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:1RP2UpEaRzkF0Id3JigqD8" data-name="Roger Miller">Roger Miller</a>, or <a href="spotify:artist:2aVHDjRHRM7dcFkGwahXLG" data-name="Lee Hazlewood">Lee Hazlewood</a> the began writing their first collection of songs. In 2012 the band released their first album Stay Home, a collection of home recordings, with purely acoustic instrumentation.
After a hiatus for Barnes to finish college at Baylor University, the band began working on their 2nd “self titled” album. This time the sound had grown exponentially. With the help of Grammy winning producer Steve Christensen (<a href="spotify:artist:2mVVjNmdjXZZDvhgQWiakk" data-name="Khruangbin">Khruangbin</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:3qnGvpP8Yth1AqSBMqON5x" data-name="Leon Bridges">Leon Bridges</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:2UBTfUoLI07iRqGeUrwhZh" data-name="Steve Earle">Steve Earle</a>) the band was able to find the sound that got the attention of Splice Records (Tomar and the FC’s, John Evans, Arthur Yoria) and signed to the label in 2016.
In 2020 the band released “Anyone” a collaboration between ACS and <a href="spotify:artist:3pQnuyiTp6EaZWiTRmtkb6" data-name="Kelly Doyle">Kelly Doyle</a>, creating a groovy atmospheric side to the band never heard before. The prolific Trevino confirms 2 new singles by the end of 2021, and a new album in 2022.
