Dancehall artist Artikal whose real name is Shaquille Bennett, is fully focused on building his name into a brand and making lasting music that transcends eras and demographics. At 26 years old, the passionate songwriter and artist who hails from Brookvalley, Kingston 20, strongly believes that good public relations and a related image is just as important as making quality music. “Currently in the industry there are a lot of artist who are going to some great lengths to get publicity. I can’t say what they are doing is wrong or right, that is not my role, as I too know how hard it is to get the acceptance of the fans. But at the end of the day I will always stay true to who Artikal is, not letting go of my upbringing and morals.
Artikal is no stranger to the music business though many may not have yet heard of him. “I was introduced to music by being around the studio from a young age and being exposed to the industry as my dad, New Kidz, has been in the music business for almost 2 decades now. I’ve always had a love for good music and an interest in making my own. ”
