As True As The Sky is the solo project of South African musician Derik Nieman, delivering a darker, heavier strain of post-rock infused with progressive and metal elements. Blending the atmospheric drive of Caspian, If These Trees Could Talk, God Is an Astronaut, and Cloudkicker with the progressive edge of David Maxim Micic and Sithu Aye, the sound weaves between stark minimalism and dense, distorted layers, creating a shifting tension rather than a single explosive release.
The debut album, The Shadows That Consume Us (out 28 November 2025), is the result of more than a decade of writing and five years of focused recording. Across its nine tracks the record explores the burdens we carry: grief, loss, anxiety, regret, and the enduring struggle to find meaning in the dark. Entirely self-composed and produced, the project reflects Nieman’s twenty years of experience across multiple musical acts, now distilled into a singular personal vision.
