El Huapango es un género musical y dancístico llamado también Son Huasteco cuyo origen lo encontramos dentro del folklore español derivándose de los cantos flamencos, los fandangos y fandanguillos; de las malagueñas, zapateados, seguidillas, peteneras y otros géneros líricos y coreográficos que llegaron a México desde el siglo XVI, apareciendo en la región huasteca a fines del siglo XVII y principios del XVIII.
The Huapango, also known as “Son Huasteco” (the Sound of Huasteco), is a music and dance genre whose origin is a derivation of Spanish folklore, such as flamenco, fandango, the malaguenas, zapateados, and seguidillas and other lyrical and choreographic genres that arrived in Mexico in the 16th century, and the Huasteca region (encompassing parts of the Mexican states of Tamulipas, Veracruz, San Luis Potosi, Hidalgo, Queretaro, and Puebla) at the end of the 17th and beginning of the 18th centuries.
