Ayo River, the moniker used by songwriter Weston Taylor, is a project that intersects deeply personal lyrics with the inescapable connectedness of the modern world. In 2014, Weston started recording his songs with Athens/Atl, Ga producers Matt Martin & Ace Taylor. The songs they assembled over the next 3 years comprise Ayo’s debut LP Failed State.

After Failed State, Weston assembled a live band for shows, and attempted to evolve the project into a “band- band”, as he puts it, before eventually reverting to the solo project Ayo had been before. Significant portions of an album were scrapped along the way.

“It was such a great learning experience for me, but I felt I was heading in the wrong direction. I’ve always envisioned Ayo to be a genreless, Tony Hawk free-skate mode of expression for myself, & I felt especially sure of that when I began work on album 2, the second time around.”

Weston is currently releasing the sophomore Ayo River album single by single, to give each song some space. Production is once again helmed by Matt Martin, Ace Taylor, & Weston.

Archaeology, Cat Dragged Home, Text Me When You Get Home Safe, & Go Bad are the tracks we’ve heard so far, and they demonstrate what Weston calls a “deeper confidence & comfort in everything, from songwriting, to the production, to the personal foundations behind the project itself. I’m so proud to share these tracks, and so thankful fo every listener.”

The next single, Split Ends, is due to arrive in late July.
