Growing up on the outskirts of Washington D.C., Emerson credits his introduction to music to his teachers and community members that encouraged him to learn the bass in middle school. By age 17, he was regularly driving into the city for late night jazz gigs in a 1997 Subaru Outback his grandmother had sold him the year prior. Recent years find him writing more, having released a handful of standalone singles and an experimental EP to date.

His most commercially successful singles have generated over 3 million streams, garnering a fandom that recently celebrated the [one year release of Emerson’s college rock ode “Siddhartha.”](https://dbknews.com/2021/11/30/dead-emerson-umd-alum-singer-songwriter/) The community around his music is active and contributing to its spread; “Siddhartha” was assumedly picked up for Netflix original *[An Astrological Guide For Broken Hearts](https://www.forbes.com/sites/sheenascott/2022/03/10/an-astrological-guide-for-broken-hearts-season-2-review/?sh=4aa72ef92ed9)* from growing word-of-mouth in light of Emerson’s small operation. Loved by tastemakers, [One’s to Watch](https://www.onestowatch.com/blog/dead-emerson-showcases-another-level-of) claimed “His production is better than most multi-platinum recording artists, and his messages go even further.” As the sole producer and songwriter of the project, Emerson continues to carve out his boutique sound.
