Thomas Mullarney III and Jacob Gossett met the first day of classes at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn, where the pair were studying sculpture and painting respectively. Since then, the duo have established a singular vision under the name Beacon, with releases on electronic labels including Ghostly, Kompakt and Anjunadeep.

In early 2020, Mullarney III and Gossett returned home to the reality of the pandemic and began writing their fourth record. That year also saw a new commissioned work for fashion brand Balenciaga, as well as a then unreleased original song used by Apple to launch the new MacBook Pro (<a href="spotify:track:4ZRqI1pQFf3zf9AqHT2yF9" data-name="Show Me How">Show Me How</a>).

In June 2022, the band released poignant new single <a href="spotify:album:6emYxptvAhlk2GnlZzIwjd" data-name="Until Next Time">Until Next Time</a> along with the announcement of their first tour dates since the pandemic. A month later, news of their fourth full-length album, <a href="spotify:album:3cwJeTW8Fcv5zvJ180UBaP" data-name="Along the Lethe">Along the Lethe</a> arrived. The album was released September 2022 and features collaborations with <a href="spotify:artist:4G6HhUUQ1LgyYnA2WJppf8" data-name="Colin Stetson">Colin Stetson</a> and <a href="spotify:artist:2GLf7iaOOujAem5R87xwto" data-name="Matthew Dear">Matthew Dear</a>.

The Lethe is one of the five rivers of the underworld in Greek mythology. The newly dead who drank from its waters lost all memory of their earthly lives. "I see Along The Lethe as Jacob and I preserving an extraordinary moment of our lives," explains Thomas. "It contains the most difficult and exalted experiences we’ve had creating music together. Writing it down makes it impossible to forget."
