Big Society began at the Royal Northern College of Music, where friends guitarist Thomas Fripp and bassist Harry Gumery met drummer Will Jaquet. They spent hours recording Beatles and Killers covers until Will introduced one of his own songs, and the band was formed.
DIY Mag described their music as "sleazy riffs slathered in distortion with something more tender." They’ve drawn comparisons to MGMT, War On Drugs, and Alabama Shakes.
Their sound has earned them support from Huw Stephens, BBC Introducing, Radio X, Amazing Radio, and playlist spots on The Indie List, Hot New Bands, and more. In 2023, they crossed one million Spotify streams.
Big Society has played sold-out shows in Manchester and London, and appeared at The Great Escape, Live at Leeds, Hit The North, and a prestigious Hyde Park slot supporting Bob Dylan and Neil Young.
