Summoning an off-kilter, kaleidoscopic incarnation of sun-drenched indie pop, Stephen swirls together lush vocal harmonies and shimmering guitars with a sinister backdrop of brooding synthesizers.
The new single, "Don't Know When," is the first release from the project since the highly acclaimed 2020 debut LP, "Obscure Emotion." Brimming with an energy of optimistic anxiety & reluctant acceptance, the track was created in a frenzied attempt to find passage through an overwhelming wave of uncertainty and isolation.
In addition to focusing on many upcoming releases and projects for <a href="spotify:artist:3OlLjWpkVZ7av692ts2IU0" data-name="Birthday Club">Birthday Club</a>, Stephen also recently worked as the lead producer on the Spotify Fresh Finds certified debut album from <a href="spotify:artist:1qWv2eIMRmwcEJAsMDt11C" data-name="Velveteen Echo">Velveteen Echo</a>. The album recording and production sessions were engineered by Houston studio legend, Steve Christensen (<a href="spotify:artist:2mVVjNmdjXZZDvhgQWiakk" data-name="Khruangbin">Khruangbin</a>, <a href="spotify:artist:3qnGvpP8Yth1AqSBMqON5x" data-name="Leon Bridges">Leon Bridges</a>).
"A force to be reckoned with." - Consequence of Sound
"Drawing upon swatches of psychedelia and New Wave, Houston's Birthday Club crafts eclectic pop tunes awash in faint allusions to L.A.'s mid-Eighties Paisley Underground. Guitarist/vocalist Stephen Wells cuts a commanding center stage persona on souped-up summer blasts" - Austin Chronicle "Must See Pop Bands of SXSW"
