Black Slate is one of the UK’s most respected reggae bands, formed in 1972 by Anthony “Pure Silk” Brightly, Desmond Mahoney, and Chris “Music House” Hanson. Known for their 1980 Top 10 UK hit “Amigo,” Black Slate brought messages of unity, community, and resistance to a generation.

Now, with over five decades of music behind them, Black Slate returns with “Amigo 50+” — a modern-day remake of their signature song.

This new version features Gaven Creary, son of founding member Anthony Brightly, on lead vocals, and Mensah, a 26-year-old bass player who brings fresh rhythm to the roots.

“Amigo 50+” bridges generations — honoring the foundation while looking to the future of reggae music.

Follow us to stay connected with new music, shows, and stories from the Black Slate journey. Roots run deep.
