From winning Terry Tha Rapman’s Zombie competition in 2012 to daring moments that challenged authority, Blaqbonez quickly positioned himself as a rapper unafraid of attention or argument. That fearlessness caught the eye of M.I Abaga, who signed him to Chocolate City’s 100 Crowns imprint. His debut, Bad Boy Blaq, shot to the top of hip-hop charts and set the tone for a career defined by ambition.
In 2019, Blaqbonez declared himself the “Best Rapper in Africa,” igniting one of Nigerian hip-hop’s most polarising conversations. But the music kept up. Mr Boombastic and Sex Over Love revealed an artist comfortable bending rap into melody, pop, and vulnerability, earning global recognition from Burna Boy and Wizkid and landing Sex Over Love on Rolling Stone’s Top Albums of 2021.
Off record, his pull is just as loud. He sold out a 4,000-capacity venue with Breaking the Yoke of Love and followed up with Emeka Must Shine (2023), a bold, collaborative statement featuring Amaarae, Ludacris, Zlatan, ODUMODUBLVCK, Lojay, and Blxckie. In 2025, he returned with No Excuses, powered by the viral standout “ACL”, a reminder that Nigerian rap still thrives on conviction, chaos, and charisma.
