Block belongs to a rarefied category of artists—one who has not simply ridden the wave of a genre, he’s made waves by creating one. From his first underground cult-hit record which helped launch the anti-folk movement of late 1990’s New York City to the global 2025 deluxe-edition reissue series of his storied catalog, Block has broken boundaries while setting standards for commercial and critical success. His influence can be felt in every corner of modern indie, folk-punk, and lo-fi songwriting, alongside contemporaries Regina Spektor, Beck, and Ani DiFranco.
Now, Block releases “I Thought I Won The War” November 12th, the first single from his forthcoming new record Love Crash, out next year on Meridian (ECR Music Group). Produced by Chris Kuffner (Ingrid Michaelson, Regina Spektor), mixed and mastered by Blake Morgan (Lenny Kravitz, Lesley Gore, Janita), this new single showcases Block at the top of his game—as incisive, authentic, and emotionally vulnerable as ever.
Rolling Stone calls Block, “Too complex to fit into a musical drawer.” Spin Magazine hails him as “Engaging and promise-filled.” Billboard simply proclaims his work as, “A witty, knowing collection of pop tracks.”
