In 2001, the eight-piece Polish band Blue Cafe set out to combine jazz, funk, pop, and Latin disco with hip-hop beats. They were signed to the EMI-related Polish label Pomaton the same year, and their debut, Fanaberia, appeared in 2002. It soon went platinum in Poland and their 2003 follow-up, Demi Sec, went gold on its first day of release. In 2004 the band was nominated as Poland's entry into the Eurovision Song Contest for the song "Love Song." ~ David Jeffries
