Boskasie is a singer/songwriter that hails from the Mother city (Cape Town), currently residing in Johannesburg. Having grown up in a family full of Jazz music lovers, she is inspired by the nostalgic sounds of Cape Jazz with her mother being a trumpeter, and her dad a vocalist in the boys brigade. Many have deemed her music as following an authentic urban contemporary sound, others experience it as neo-soul. Her music follows an easy, hypnotic feel taking the listener on a journey of discovery, through her lens, which she has categorised into a genre she calls "eclectic soul". Eclectic melodies coupled with deep soulful lyrics.
Having had a background in the arts, Dance in particular, Boskasie is an esteemed all round artist, photographing as well as painting day-to-day adventures, when she is unable to express it in words, through her songwriting. Her love for fashion and her secret addiction for sneakers and street culture as a whole, offers a refreshing juxtaposition to the traditional and contemporary elements of her music. Boskasie would often be found at cyphers and street culture events, in her spare time. If she was not actually participating in the events (dancing or selling sneakers) she would be there supporting the culture of fashion, often being photographed for her unique style.
