The Braxton Brothers: Smooth Jazz’s Funky Twins

Twin brothers Nelson and Wayne Braxton, hailing from San Francisco, are the heart of The Braxton Brothers, a smooth jazz duo known for their soulful, funky sound. Bl blending jazz, R&B, funk, pop, and reggae, their music captivates with Nelson’s dexterous basslines and Wayne’s expressive saxophone. Since their 1996 debut, Steppin’ Out, which hit #1, they’ve crafted a signature style, writing, arranging, and performing hits like “When Love Comes Around.” Their discography includes Now and Forever (1999), Both Sides (2002), Rollin’ (2004), True Love (2013), and Higher (2018), with recent singles like “Tonight” (2024) and “Catalina Nights” (2022).

Raised in a musical household, the twins joined their school band in fourth grade and later earned spots in the California All-State Honor Band. Nelson toured with Michael Bolton, Wayne with Sheila E. and both were members of Ledisi’s founding band, Anibade. Their unique process—writing lyrics first—gives their instrumental tracks a lyrical, storytelling quality. Performing globally, including on Dave Koz’s 2024 Smooth Jazz Cruise, they’ve collaborated with artists like Chris Camozzi and Peter Michael Escovedo. With over 64,000 monthly Spotify listeners, The Braxton Brothers continue to inspire with their uplifting, genre-blending grooves.
