Cassette spence’s music is described by Adafruit as a “fog thick with atmosphere and emotion”. her habitual bedroom recordings started in her early teens in south texas and continue today in her new york apartment. She’s toured north america as an instrumentalist in bands Pepper Rabbit and Verb the Adjective Noun, and has released two albums with her best friends as Vassals. she’s left handed.
Sixsix was recorded in her noisy north brooklyn bedroom after some professional burnout in late 2019.
It’s a bit of a digital/analog patchwork: voice memos mixed with decade - old tape snippets, blown out guitars and various tiny synthesizers, programmed drum machines, novice hand percussion. she tried to let the recording process inform song structures as much as possible, letting things grow or fall away when necessary. each of the songs attempts to focus on a specific experience, while instrumental sections occur as flashes of broader, blurrier nostalgia.
