Peoria-born, Chicago-based Eillah returns after her 4-year hiatus with lush indie folk two-sider <a href="spotify:album:3fROtjgtCVUqOOdsoBgaKt" data-name="Amaranth / My Own Mouth">Amaranth / My Own Mouth</a>. Following her 2021 debut lofi lockdown album, <a href="spotify:album:6ojLT6OQFedyu1Dr0hrDiG" data-name="in my head">in my head</a>, she teamed up with producer, engineer, and drummer Jack Henry to explore a new sonic terrain, leaning both into her stripped-back and fleshed-out sensibilities.
Tracked under two full moons and across two sessions at Exit Slip Recording – marking her first professionally recorded studio work – this pair of songs perform a balancing act between raw and realized, grounded and floating, half-awake and half-dreaming.
Held up by waves of volatile guitar feedback, the a-side is a hypnagogic, intimate double-tracked lullaby, embracing imperfect performance and harboring its heart on its sleeve. Contrasting "<a href="spotify:track:0lZjNJJbpgFaIWtd1kgVT1" data-name="Amaranth">Amaranth</a>" is the full-band backed b-side, "<a href="spotify:track:1CIwzAeIsCOlVxUmAcCcyz" data-name="My Own Mouth">My Own Mouth</a>," which extends from all angles, sinking into deeper, darker layers. Thematically, both tracks oscillate between a clenched fist and outstretched hand.
