Italian percussionist and composer, specialized in Afro-Cuban, Afro-Brazilian and Arab rhythms. He researches a style that merges those traditional musical cultures into contemporary European and Afro-American sounds and grooves.
He leads his own project Cesare Pastanella Afrodiaspora, which explores the traces of the African culture present in most of today's music from both sides of the Atlantic. With this band has published the album The round trip (AlfaMusic 2019). He has also released the soloist albums Music for Tales vol. 1 and 2 (Angapp Music 2021-2022), that collect the music written for the theatre performances 'Il Viaggio di Arjun' and 'Badà Re, anzi Leone' by Lucia Zotti.
Among his numerous collaborations there are Toquinho, Bobby McFerrin, Paolo Fresu Sextet, Gianluigi Trovesi, Antonello Salis, Maria Pia De Vito, Antonella Ruggiero, Faraualla, Tavernanova, Selma Hernandes, Serena Brancale, Joy Garrison, Luis “Aspirina” Chacòn, Francisco Ulloa Pachito, Farafina, Toups Bebey & Le Spirit Pan-African Brass Company, Gabin Dabiré, Pierre Favre, Javier Girotto, Roberto Ottaviano, Nicola Conte, Tony Esposito, Radiodervish, Fabrizio Bosso, participating in numerous international festivals.
During his career he has carried out concerts, recordings and teaching activities.
As Drum Circle facilitator he's the founder of the brand Batimba, which offers rhythmic events in corporate, educational, social and cultural settings.
