Established in the late 1970s by siblings Michael and Trevor Bailey, Channel One Sound System began when they were passed control of their father's Admiral Bailey sound. They introduced it to local blues parties and dance events. The name Channel One paid tribute to the legendary Jamaican studio from which the brothers sourced many records. In those days, reggae wasn’t played on radio or in nightclubs, so communities created their own spaces with sound systems spinning the latest tracks.

In 1982, Channel One started performing at Notting Hill Carnival and have returned every year since (except during covid). They have become an integral part of the festival, helping shape its sound and atmosphere.

Led by Mikey Dread, original selector, Channel One play strictly vinyl on a single turntable, joined by MCs Macky Banton and Ras Sherby. Together they deliver conscious reggae, exclusive dubplates and uplifting steppas through their hand-built system, known for its deep, heavyweight bass.

Channel One’s mission is simple: to break down barriers through reggae music. Their message has carried worldwide, from Village Underground in London to festivals across Europe and shows in Colombia, Mexico, India, Nepal, Thailand, Dubai and beyond. Wherever they play, Channel One bring upliftment through positive music and unity.
