Sooner or later, we all experience coming of age. Adolescence can be an eventful time for anyone, but few people have experienced it as publicly as Cori Broadus who is the daughter of Hip-Hop icon Snoop Dogg, Under the moniker of CHOC, she exudes fresh confidence as she embarks on her own musical journey.
While CHOC has long held dreams of pursuing a career in music, the attention that can accompany such a path took adjusting to.
Growing familiar with the attention of the media is not the only challenge that CHOC has faced. Like so many other young women, she had to learn to love herself. " Through the support of her family and her own self-belief, she has come to embrace her beauty: "I just look in the mirror like, 'Girl, you're beautiful.' I started looking at the positive things, and the positive outweighs the negative."
This optimism is apparent in CHOC's debut single, "Same." A sleek and assured R&B offering, "Same" may acknowledge a special man in her life, but CHOC's priority is empowering herself and young women. “People like to disrespect girls and women, - I want to be the one to stand up, be a role model, and fight for what's right." Now eighteen and clearly coming into her own, she appears perfectly positioned to do so. "Now that I'm CHOC I feel like I have a story and I have a purpose," she elaborates. "I've been through things, and I'm able to express that." With this distinct sense of direction, CHOC has found her voice and is finally ready to harness it.
