Chris Letchford is a technically adroit heavy metal, prog rock, and jazz-influenced guitarist and founding member of the instrumental alt-metal band Scale the Summit. A native of Houston, Texas, Letchford began playing guitar around age eight and studied privately throughout his adolescence. After high school, he enrolled in the Guitar Performance Program at the Musicians Institute in Los Angeles. While studying there, he met guitarist Travis LeVrier, bassist Jordan Eberhardt, and drummer Pat Skeffington. Together, they formed the progressive metal band Scale the Summit. In 2006, the group relocated to Letchford's hometown in Texas and began honing its sound. In 2007, the band released its full-length debut album, Monument. Two years later, Scale the Summit returned with Carving Desert Canyons. Letchford then appeared on the band's third studio album, 2011's The Collective, followed by 2013's The Migration. In 2014, Letchford released his first solo album, the jazz-infused The Lightbox. ~ Matt Collar, Rovi
