Canadian composer Christophe Beck has written music for both film and television. He debuted to acclaim in 1998, winning an Emmy for his work on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Beck has composed the scores for such high-profile films as Disney's Frozen and Frozen 2, all three Hangover movies and many Marvel projects.
Beck was born in 1972 in Montreal, Quebec where he started on piano around age five. By his teens, he was teaching himself how to play pop tunes and had formed his own band. He attended Toronto's Crescent School where, along with piano, he played saxophone and drums. After high school, he further honed his craft at Yale University. While there, he and his brother composed several musicals, as well as an opera based on the Edgar Allan Poe short story "The Tell-Tale Heart." Following his time at Yale, he entered USC's Thornton School of Music film scoring program, where he studied with Jerry Goldsmith. Basing himself in Los Angeles, Beck found work composing for such shows as Law & Order and NYPD Blue. He also scored 2021's Free Guy and 2023's Shazam! Fury of the Gods.
