Hailing from North London, Chy Cartier represents the best and brightest of today’s emerging UK talent. Using her North London upbringing as a catalyst for her art, Chy is a vivid storyteller who is redefining what it means to be a young female artist in the male-dominated field of British rap.

At just 20, her razor-sharp rhymes speak for themselves. Despite her young age, Chy has already received a host of credible co-signs – Stormzy, DJ Semtex, Youngs Teflon, Wretch 32, Digga D and Potter Payper are all early champions and big fans of her sound.

Chy’s lyrics are filled with conviction, and through her tracks she offers an unselfconscious, first-hand take on what it is like growing up in austerity Britain. Her words provide an eloquent commentary on the social issues, disparities and injustices one can face when growing up in an inner-city environment – all delivered with an easy air of quick wit and relatability.

Of dual Sierra Leonean and Jamaican heritage, the music played at home when Chy was growing up heavily influenced her subsequent journey as an artist. With early exposure to R&B, Dancehall, Hip Hop, Reggae, UK Garage and House, the shift between listening to creating music came naturally. Almost as soon as she could talk, Chy was rapping – memorising Lil Kim, Nicki Minaj, Vybz Kartel and Mavado lyrics and counting bars until she was old enough to write her own.
