Cicada is a contemporary chamber music ensemble from Taiwan, formed in 2009, consisting of violin, cello, piano, and acoustic guitar. It is named after Cicada because people are aware of cicada's existence by their sound instead of forms.

In 2013, Cicada began to compose for Taiwan. The theme of “Coastland” was the west coastland, and “Light Shining Through the Sea” was inspired by the east coast and the Pacific Ocean. “White Forest” drew inspiration from marine life. Cicada walked into the mountain on their 10th year and released the hiking journal “Hiking in the Mist”. In 2022, their focus switched to the valleys and forests. “Seeking the Sources of Streams” comprised moments of roaming the mountains. In 2025, their album “Gazing the Shades of White” opened a journey from island to island, following the traces of glaciers across both hemispheres.

Cicada takes inspiration from landscapes, using chamber music to bring its natural beauty to life. With a background in classical music, the band blends contemporary elements into a unique sound that transcends language.

Since forming, Cicada has toured across Taiwan, Japan, Singapore, Australia, Austria, and Russia, performing for tens of thousands of listeners. Beyond live performances, Cicada collaborates across borders. In 2021, they were invited by Japan’s Shochiku Films to produce music for ‘A Man,’ which earned them the Japan Academy Film Prize for Outstanding Achievement in Music.
