Corey Smith developed a passion for music early and, after graduating from the University of Georgia, briefly taught high school before focusing fully on music. He built his career independently through steady touring and self-released albums. His debut, Undertones (2003), introduced his honest Southern storytelling, followed by In the Mood (2004), The Good Life (2005), and Hard-Headed Fool (2007), which strengthened his reputation as a songwriter and producer.
In 2011, he released The Broken Record through Average Joe’s Entertainment, produced by Rick Beato. The album reached No. 17 on the Billboard Country chart and remains one of his most successful. In 2015, he partnered with Sugar Hill Records for While the Gettin’ Is Good, produced by Keith Stegall, offering a more polished sound while preserving his authenticity.
His latest album, Suburban Drawl, recorded at Nashville’s Sound Emporium and produced by Erik Dylan, marks his first project centered on co-writing, featuring collaborators like Wyatt Durrette, Chris DuBois, and Tyler Reeve. It blends his Southern roots with heartland rock and a more mature perspective.
Throughout his career, Smith has remained a prolific touring artist, often playing over 100 shows a year. Songs like “If I Could Do It Again,” “Twenty-One,” and “Drinkin’ Again” resonate for their relatability. He continues to write, record, and tour independently, solidifying his place as one of country music’s most enduring independent artists.
