Emerging from their roles as supporting players on the Los Angeles indie scene, the duo of Micah Gordon and Eli Hirsch construct shimmering electronic indie pop with crystal-clear hooks as courtship. The project's debut album, Denial in Paradise, saw release in 2018, followed in 2022 by I Hope You're Well in These Crazy Times.
In 2016, Gordon and Hirsch decided to stop playing in rock band Bloodboy and branch out with a new collaborative project. Both had spent a lot of time in L.A. as supporting musicians (Gordon played in Tobias Jesso, Jr.'s band and Hirsch did time with Ethan Burns, Dreamers, and others), but with courtship. they focused on their songwriting and production skills. The hooky results were delivered concisely on their first single, "Stop for Nothing," in 2016. The band's electronic underpinnings were further driven home by a series of remixes of their tracks from producers such as Body Language and EMBRZ. Meanwhile, the pair continued with a steady stream of singles, among them the 2017 viral hits "Tell Me Tell Me Tell Me" and "Sunroof," both of which appeared on their first full-length, 2018's Denial in Paradise. They returned the following year with the songs "Number 1," "Amy Run for the Hills," and the deprecating "Guy Stuff." Throughout 2021, the duo issued a flurry of singles like "Fuzzy" and "I Try" in the run-up to their sophomore LP, I Hope You're Well in These Crazy Times, which arrived in August 2022. ~ Fred Thomas, Rovi
