Crouton Cannon are on a mission to make music that brings joy: irresistible beats that put a skip in your step, eccentric lyrics that put a smile on your face, hooky earworms that crawl into your ear and cuddle your brain.
Crouton Cannon's origins go back to when guitarist Alex met Ben at a local open mic in South London. Ben was the boy-wonder drummer, barely in secondary school, holding down the groove for whoever stepped up to play. A decade later, Alex asked him to be a founding member of the band, inspired by artists like Vulfpeck, Cory Wong, and Louis Cole, who merged funk with quirky lyrics. Alex cherry-picked other musicians he had performed with as a student from the University of London’s live music scene, including bassist Jonny Cheung and keyboardist Daniel Marks. The outfit found a charismatic frontperson in Louise O’Connor, who was the ace in the hole of Ben’s community choir, London City Voices. All the band needed was a name, which came after a Cory Wong gig where he unexpectedly launched vegan croutons at the band watching in the audience. Alex caught the gluten-based ordnance and Crouton Cannon was born.
