Cymbaline is a new wave band from Utrecht, The Netherlands.
Their music draws heavily on the post-punk era of the late ‘70s-early ‘80s. By using vintage synthesizers and drum computers, which reminisce of the rawness and coldness of grey industrial cities, they try to capture the melancholy that is associated with this period. Yet, their music sounds refreshingly up to date.
While their first a-side “Nicht Weiter Als Berlin” (released March 2019) reflects a yearning for childhood innocence, their single “Mean Bobby” (released March 2020) poses a more cynical, absurdist perspective on life. Both singles received national and international attention.
In 2021 the band released two more songs, 'Walking Sleeptalking' and 'My Baby'. Both songs, alongside 'Mean Bobby', were released on cassette on German record label Young and Cold Records. Autumn 2022 saw the release of their debut album 'Computerleven'.
