Darkhouse Family's output has encompassed left-field beatmaking and a synthesis of programmed and played compositions that recall West London's broken beat scene. Earl Jeffers (aka Che Ahmed, Metabeats, Chesus) and Don Leisure (aka Aly Jamal, Jamal) are actually based directly west of London in Cardiff. They debuted as a duo on the Fat City label with Family Trees EP (2010). After a split 12" with C.R.S.T. (featuring Jeffers), they issued In & Out EP (2012) and Brockwild EP (2014) for Earnest Endeavors. The lead track of the former EP, "Take on the World," featured Om'Mas Keith of inspirations Sa-Ra, and was selected by BBC DJ Gilles Peterson for inclusion on the eighth Brownswood Bubblers compilation. A move to the First Word label was synchronized with an increased emphasis on live instrumentation, heard first on Solid Gold EP (2016), then developed further on their first proper album, The Offering (2017). ~ Andy Kellman, Rovi
