Dear Readers are a Thurles-based alternative rock band, re-formed in 2022 after a 22-year hiatus. Rooted in the raw, emotive spirit of ’90s alt-rock and grunge, their sound blends melody with urgency, drawing influence from Pearl Jam, R.E.M., Radiohead, U2, +Live+, and Nirvana.
Originally known as Mindless Depths in the late ’90s, the group evolved from a covers act into a songwriting force, with founding members Paul McGrath and Jonathan Gleeson crafting original material that continues to shape the band’s setlists today. Their music captures the grit and soul of the era that inspired them while delivering a sound that feels fresh, honest, and emotionally charged.
Since reuniting, Dear Readers have performed at intimate venues and festivals, and recorded their EP AWOL at Twin Oaks Studio. Released in October 2025, the EP featured the band’s debut single High Above. Tracks from AWOL have received regular airplay on stations such as 8radio.com and Dublin City FM, and have been added to influential Spotify curator playlists. During this period, the band has also earned praise for their distinctive sound and energetic live performances.
The band will return to the studio in early 2026 to begin work on their debut album, scheduled for release later that year, and plan to hit the festival circuit throughout 2026.
