How did D.I.T. get started?
Well, Wayne Watts (bass) and his best friend John Shavers (trumpet) started a band which included Michael Thompson (keys and lead vocals), Sharon Reed (guitar), and Tony Yorkshire (drums) in their junior year in high school (1972) which eventually became known as Destiny In Time after several iterations. Then somewhere around 1979 or so, we decided to abbreviate the name to D.I.T. During this time, we also began recording the original music of the band, as well as the original music of other musician/songwriter friends of ours, in Wayne's parent’s basement on a 4 track recorder (Teac-2340).
In the late 70's, D.I.T. began recording and releasing various funk, pop and disco based tracks on their in-house label, Evergreen Records. Tracks included Dance, Visions, Long Gone, Got To Get It Together, and Let's Start Dancin'.
In 1982 D.I.T. went on a West Coast tour that included gigs in Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada and California. While on tour, in 1983, we released the single "You Bring Out The Best In Me" and "Ooh Jam" that went on to become a popular song for licensing on television shows like FX’s “Snowfall” S3E6-Confessions for decades later.
The final composition of D.I.T., in 1985, included Wayne Watts, Michael Thompson, Sharon Watts, Johnny Shaw and Steve Roybal.
