Dolly Mixture combined the spirit and giddiness of early Merseybeat with fast guitar pop reflecting a love of ‘60s girl groups, glam and punk. They formed in February 1978 while still at school in Cambridge, England with Rachel Bor on guitar, Hester Smith on drums and Debsey Wykes on bass. The band would later sing backing with Captain Sensible on his solo singles including Wot and the number one UK hit Happy Talk. Dolly Mixture were however a force to be reckoned with in their own right. They were a precursor to indiepop and can claim a direct influence on the Riot Grrrl movement. They were one of a handful of female bands to emerge from the British post punk scene of the late seventies and their popularity has continued to grow during the intervening years.
