Dress Thèque [dress-tek] is a Sydney-based band known for an intangible yet familiar sound. Rooted in a shared love of eclectic ‘90s and 2000s pop, they’ve carved out a distinct voice by merging nostalgic tones with cinematic, forward-thinking production.
Their debut release, Landslide (2016), was met with strong support from the Sydney music community, due to the cinematic feel and genre-fluid production, amplified by an ambitious music video directed by filmmaker Rhys Day. The follow-up, Football Music, explored breakbeat, trip-hop, and Britpop, pushing the band’s sonic boundaries and paving the way for their debut LP Ascension (2020).
House Hymns followed on New Year’s Eve 2021, shaped by themes of vulnerability, ‘90s nightlife, and a deepening ease as collaborators. Finished just hours before release, the album was offered as a free download—a gesture of connection and celebration.
Often marked by long silences between releases, the band’s return in 2025 with Discipline, Momentum, Play signals their most adventurous chapter yet. Featuring long time friends Forest Hall, the track draws from The Chemical Brothers, Jimi Hendrix, U2 & Aphex Twin. While the band’s future may be shaped by the demands of family life, their creative depth continues to grow.
