The new musical project 'We Got You Covered' from the young Nigerian-American phenom DRUZU is an eclectic mix of hip-hop, indie rock, and R&B. The project effortlessly crosses between musical genres and is the first installment of his "We Got You Covered" series where he meshes his erosive hip hop sound into the instrumentals of his favorite indie bands.
DRUZU's off-beat perspective on relationships, poverty, and human nature are often topics of his music, spoken word and poetry projects. A first generation child to Nigerian parents, the Houston native came up from extreme poverty in the 3rd ward and Southeast Houston areas to become a college graduate which has been a considerable contributor to both his music and spoken word projects.
DRUZU is expecting to drop his next original project at the end of spring 2018 (title coming soon) followed by "We Got You Covered II" slated for the summer of 2018.
When asked how he selects beats for his projects DRUZU stated, "It can be a bit overwhelming at times listening to so much music and trying to figure out how to put my own twist to it or what subject matter I want to touch on or even what I want to pull from the original song itself, but I love the exposure to new music. Of course I have my favorites that I always liste to and and am inspired by. I try to give a good mix of what I love, what the fans want to hear, and what I feel is just an outright challenge for me musically. The end result always reeks of pure dopeness".
