Edison Machado was a great Brazilian drummer. Inventor of the samba o prato style (the samba beat at the cymbals), he was an intrinsic part of the bossa nova since its inception, having participated in many albums, credited or not, like Sergio Mendes e Bossa Trio, Bossa Três, Rio 65 Trio, Victor Assis Brasil Toca Jobim, Rio 65 Trio, Sérgio Mendes's Você Ainda Não Ouviu Nada!, Os Bossa 3, and others. In the '50s, he accompanied most artists in Rio's 52nd Street, Beco das Garrafas. In 1963, he released the LP Edison Machado É Samba Novo. In the '70s, Machado moved to Europe and then to the U.S. With his Edison Machado Quartet, and made the samba-jazz style popular, performing in some of the best jazz clubs and releasing the LP Obras in 1970. ~ Alvaro Neder, Rovi
