Em Grace & the Undercuts are a fem fronted queer force based in Chicago blending punk rock with the electric baritone ukulele.
Founded by Em Grace (Emma Fondell, vocals) and the Undercuts (Sage, bass; Jess, guitar; Rachael, drums) after various musical projects and friendship brought them together. Their inspiration draws on musical legends such as Brittany Howard, Screaming Females, Amanda Palmer, and Queen; all while creating their own unique blend of queercore, punk, rock, and folk punk genres. Their songs touch on topics like attachment styles, addiction, heartbreak, self love, grief, body neutrality, consent and more.
Em's powerhouse vocals bring emotions to the surface you thought were buried. She plays with gender expression in her performance and vocality; all while adding a burlesque flair. Each song brings you into an intimate part of life with the intention of listeners feeling a connected catharsis. Her muse is using music to create community, to use queer joy and vulnerability as a form of resistance.
