Espen Berg (b. 1983, Norway) has been touring around the world since 2003, and has become one of the leading voices of Norwegian jazz. He has collaborated with artists such as the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, Seamus Blake, Silje Nergaard, Mathias Eick, Hildegunn Øiseth, Marius Neset, Daniel Herskedal, and many more. He is frequently touring in Europe and Asia with Espen Berg Trio, and their third album was listed as one of the best releases of 2019 by Downbeat (US). Espen was awarded Norway’s largest jazz scholarship in 2016, and has written commissioned works for the Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, and the jazz festivals in Molde, Trondheim, Stavanger and Oslo.

In late October 2022, Espen released his third solo album, The Trondheim Concert, which is a live-recording of a fully improvised concert. His solo project was conceived in the early 2000’s when he discovered Keith Jarrett’s legendary Köln Concert. It would take 15 years of dedicated work and countless hours by the piano until he stepped up the game and played his first fully improvised solo concert, which is now available as The Trondheim Concert. Stuart Nicholson concluded his review for Jazzwise (UK) writing that this album is «impressive stuff – the future of spontaneously-improvised solo concert is in safe hands», giving it an Editor’s Choice remark.

Espen was appointed to an official Steinway Artist in 2023 and is now touring as a solo artist.
