Evils Toy was a German synthpop and electro band founded in 1992 by Volker Lutz and Thorsten Brenda in Germany. The band began their career in the dark electro and industrial genre, characterized by atmospheric synthesizer sounds, pulsating beats and thematically often dystopian lyrics. Early works such as “Human Refuse” (1993) attracted particular attention in the dark wave and electro scene.

Over time, Evils Toy developed further and changed their sound in the direction of melodic synthpop. Albums such as “Angels Only!” (1997) show their shift towards catchier melodies and danceable rhythms, which also brought them new followers in the wider electronic music scene. The two founders, Lutz and Brenda, created a unique mix of melancholy lyrics and energetic synthesizer sounds that made the band a defining act of the 1990s electro and synthpop scene.

After the turn of the millennium, the project evolved into a new music project called T.O.Y., with Volker Lutz remaining the driving force. T.O.Y. still pursues the path of melodic, emotional synthpop sounds today, continuing the musical legacy of Evils Toy.
