Fantasma is a South African collective that manically grafts together hip-hop, Zulu maskandi music, shangaan electro, psych, South African house, and punk. Founded in 2013 by rapper/producer/singer <a href="spotify:artist:3qw0OXlLhqI78xEWw9Ys8O">Spoek Mathambo</a>, he enlisted DJ Spoko (the godfather of "Bacardi house"), guitarist André Geldenhuys (Machineri), veteran multi-instrumentalist Bekisenzo Joseph Cele (Vukazithathe NeziNgane ZaKhe) and drummer Michael Buchanan. After live appearances in their homeland's townships, Fantasma played a series of dates in England in 2014 where they recorded their EP, Eye of the Sun, for <a href="spotify:search:label%3A%22Soundway%22">Soundway</a>. The recording was received with near universal acclaim. After a period of intense touring, they returned to the studio later that year.
