I began playing music in 1966 after getting my first guitar for Christmas. I was inspired by Donovan, Dylan, Pete Seeger, The Beatles, Crosby, Stills, and Nash, Tom Paxton, and others. I have always considered myself to be a folk singer, even though my music veers from the traditional. In 1986 I briefly stepped away from folk music to explore some electronic keyboard-based music, including the album Original Soundtrack. I have been writing music almost as long as I have been playing, though the last few years have been more prolific; in 2020 I released four albums of new material along with a "band" album, an album of folk songs done by Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead, and an album recorded in 1974.
