Ghost Town DJs AKA The GhostownDJs were never a proper group, but that didn’t stop the Atlanta hip-hop collective from scoring a hit with 1996’s “My Boo,” their first and only single. • GhosTown DJs were ostensibly led by Rodney Terry, a former Def Jam promotions guy who landed on Jermaine Dupri’s So So Def label. • Terry came up with the name GhosTown DJs. He was inspired by Ghetto Style DJs, a Miami bass crew that was big in the ’80s. • Heavily influenced by Miami bass music, “My Boo” appears on the compilation So So Def Bass All-Stars. The single reached No. 31 on the Billboard Hot 100. • The track features vocals from singer Virgo and production by Terry and Carlton Mahone. “My Boo” made a comeback in 2016, when the “Running Man Challenge” meme went viral on Vine. The track re-entered the Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at No. 27. • Over the years, numerous artists have sampled or interpolated “My Boo,” including Mariah Carey, Pitbull, and Ciara.
