Formed in 2018, Goldfish Smarts is a somewhat alternative-indie-surf-rock band from Manly, Australia. Consisting of 6 Northern Beaches creatures looking to salvage credibility from the perils of rock’n roll nothingness, the band are Phil Kelly (lead singer), Michael Pilz and Mark Carlile (guitarists and backing vocals), Mike Szymanski (bass), Stu Freeman (drums and vocals), and Mo Macrae (harmonica). With their unique blend of powerful vocals, intricate guitar riffs, dynamic rhythm section, and a touch of bluesy harp, Goldfish Smarts have quickly made a name for themselves…Goldfish Smarts.
Off the back of successful releases such as In The Red (EP Jan ’21) and Fish Out of Water – Live At Bucketty’s Brewery (Mar ’23) the band are becoming well known for their energetic and engaging live performances, filling local and inner-city venues alike.
In Aug '23, the band release their first new music in nearly two years with the single Man About Town. This groove-driven track combines elements of rock, blues, and funk to create a unique sound that will captivate listeners. Imagine the Manchester vibes of Stone Roses combined with the Australian coolness of Cruel Sea, and you'll start to get a sense of what this song is all about.
