Goodshirt arrived in the early 2000s with a kind of sideways pop sensibility that felt both unmistakably New Zealand and strangely futuristic. Starting out in a Grey Lynn shed, they stitched together fuzzy guitars, bedroom synths, and melodic mischief into songs that somehow landed on mainstream radio and crept up the charts. With standout tracks like “Sophie,” “Blowing Dirt” and “Fiji Baby,” Goodshirt always played with contrast - crooked but catchy, lo-fi but laser-focused. After a long pause (life, kids, catnaps), the band has been re-emerging - still slightly out of step, still curious, and still making things on their own terms.
