Istanbul-based Grup Ses project dates back to 2007, initially focusing on v/vm-style edits and breakcore-infused mashups. Starting from 2008, Grup Ses began building a version of Stones Throw & Brainfeeder-influenced beatmaking, infused with a touch of humor. This approach blended all kinds of local recorded material—records, tapes, radio broadcasts, and more—forming the foundation of the signature Grup Ses sound.
After 2016’s Alliance album, Grup Ses released DeliDivan, featuring Turkish MC/producer Ethnique Punch on Souk/Discrepant Records, followed by Varyete, another collaborative project with Elektro Hafız released on Zel Zele Records. Beats from the Vaults (2008–2021) was later released on SOUK/Discrepant Records in digital and LP formats, including 10 bonus tracks.
On 28.02.2025, Grup Ses and Gökalp K released a new collaborative album on SOUK Records, blending hip-hop, grime, dubstep, and jungle. Two years in the making, self-titled album featured contributions from Cologne-based multi-instrumentalist Elektro Hafız, Marseille-based DJ Syr from Scratch Bandits Duo, and Ethnique Punch.
Grup Ses has performed at various festivals, including Distortion (DEN), Le Guess Who (2012, 2014, 2022) (NL), Milhões de Festa (POR), Off Istanbul (BEL), and Other Futures (NL).
