2006年公開、細田守監督の劇場版アニメーション『時をかける少女』の主題歌「ガーネット」挿入歌「変わらないもの」で注目を集める。
2012年発売のベストアルバム「奥華子BEST-My Letters-」がオリコン9位を記録。
2016年には上海にて初の海外単独公演を成功させた。
2019年公開の映画『殺さない彼と死なない彼女』では主題歌と初の映画音楽を担当した。
これまでにオリジナルアルバム10枚をリリースし2019年にデビュー15周年記念「奥華子ALL TIME BEST」を発売した。
映画、テレビ、ゲーム等での多数の楽曲起用の他、『ガスト』『お部屋探しMAST』『キッコーマン豆乳』などコミカルなCMソングの歌声でも注目を集め、活躍の場を広げている。
また、これまでにアーティスト、声優への楽曲提供も多数行なっている。

Her astonishing ability to draw crowds with keyboard-accompanied street performances led to her major label debut in 2005.
She gained attention in 2006 with the theme song “Garnet” and insert song “Furitenai Mono” for the theatrical animation film The Girl Who Leapt Through Time, directed by Mamoru Hosoda.
