Taking a cue from experimental rock/psych-folk torch bearers like Animal Collective, Skygreen Leopards, and Akron/Family, mercurial, Brattleboro, Vermont-based indie rockers Happy Jawbone Family Band ran a 100-percent D.I.Y. operation before inking a deal with Brooklyn's Mexican Summer in 2013. Part of the burgeoning, and incestuous southern Vermont psych-pop scene that includes Blanche Blanche Blanche and the Great Valley, the band put out a number of albums and singles independently before issuing 2013's Tastes the Broom, a compilation of their best early material. Later that year, the collective released their official eponymous debut long-player for the label. ~ James Christopher Monger, Rovi
