Harlan began as a bedroom recording project of Memphis native Harlan Hutton. Drawing from years of journal entries, Harlan encapsulates pieces of personal history within her songwriting.
Following a three year stint on guitar in local band Melinda, she began sharing her work with frontman Gabriel Hasty, who suggested she flesh out her songs for a full band. Hutton and Hasty began recording demos in late 2016. After six months of shows between Oxford, Memphis, and Nashville, Harlan recorded her debut self-titled album, released in June of 2019. Over the last year Harlan has found herself opening for bands such as Snail Mail, Chastity Belt, Lala Lala, Hovvdy, Hoops, Adult Mom, Pujol, and Healy.
