Headland is a musical collective focused on soundscaping for film, primarily centred on surf culture and coastal landscapes. Collaborative in nature, the collective both record and perform by responding intuitively to projected film.
Headland began as a film-retrieval project directed by Murray Paterson in which 8mm film shot by amateur moviemakers in the 1970s was sourced and archived. Requiring a score, Paterson gathered together a group of friends who jammed in front of projected super8. The resulting LP, Sound / Track, was released in 2013. Subsequent releases are True Flowers from This Painted World (2017) and What Rough Beast (2019).
