Growing up in Houston, Texas in a large family where music was always present, Herb remembers that he sometimes had some difficulty choosing instruments. Guitar, drums and piano – all was fun. His first contact with the piano was with his grandfather who had an old but dearly loved piano in the living room. Sitting in his grandfather's lap, he got to help out with his index finger to Spanish folk songs that were sung and played with the whole family.

Now as an adult, he uses all his fingers on the keyboard and writes both his own material and records covers on songs that he thinks he can give his own interpretation. He plays piano, guitar, bass and drums and some of his personal sources of inspiration are Stevie Wonder, Prince and John Legend.
